How I work

  • Fifty percent to book, fifty percent before final files are released.
  • Three to four weeks is a normal timeline. Rush work under two weeks adds forty percent.
  • Two revision rounds are included. Further rounds are $95 an hour.
  • Scope is agreed in writing before we start.
  • You own the finished films. I keep the underlying production tooling.
  • All music and stock is properly licensed. Always.

I teach computer science by day and make animated films at night.

Lighthouse Multimedia is one person. That's the whole studio, and it's deliberate.

I teach computer science, engineering and technology to young people. It's the best job I've had for understanding how an idea actually lands — you find out within about four seconds whether something is clear or whether you've lost the room. That has made me a better filmmaker than any amount of studying could have.

It also means the educational work isn't a category I picked off a list. I write for these students, test it on them, and rewrite it when it doesn't land.

Because I have a day job I don't need every project, which turns out to be the best thing that ever happened to my work. I take on a small number, I take my time, and I only say yes when I think I can make something good. If that sounds slow, it is. That's the point.
